Going Off The Grid

If you’ve ever dreamed about going off the grid, here’s your chance to see what day-to-day life looks like in the ultimate eco-friendly home. Earthship Biotecture architect and mastermind Michael Reynolds’ community of 70+ earthships is located near our Taos hotel, just a mile and a half west of the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge and offers visitors a sneak-peak at modern, sustainable housing built with recycled materials including used tires and tin cans. Self-guided tours of this ultra-green community are available daily, from 10 am to 4 pm. These marvels of modern engineering heat and cool themselves, generate their own electricity and provide potable water and sustainable food production. They’re also surprisingly attractive – although they can’t hold a candle to the historic downtown Taos Inn.

Address: #2 Earthship Way, Tres Piedras, NM
