October Features a Wool Festival, Storytellers, and a Balloon Rally

Sheep, goats, rabbits, alpacas, llamas, and some of the region’s finest fiber artists will gather at Kit Carson Park on October 6-7 for the 34th Annual Taos Wool Festival. Over 400 years of tradition will be represented with artists, crafters, and juried vendors exhibiting, as well as demonstrations of sheep-shearing, spinning, and dyeing fibers. A Fiber Critters Corner will include goats, alpacas, sheep and angora rabbits that kids of all ages can pet. The festival also includes a Dog Sweater Show and Contest, kids’ hands-on activities, food vendors, and live music to keep the party going.

Next, don’t miss a minute of SOMOS’ 19th Annual Taos Storytelling Festival on October 12-13. This year’s theme is “Migration,” and will feature such thought-provoking, storytelling luminaries as Milton Sparks (accompanied on guitar by John Jackson), Debra Ehrhardt, and Cisco Guevara. Listen and marvel as you rediscover the pleasures of a good story told well. Lastly, the Taos Mountain Balloon Rally will be celebrating its 35th year on October 26-28 at Balloon Rally Field. Dozens of brightly-colored balloons will fill the skies as they launch against the dazzling background of a New Mexico Sunrise. For more information, call (575) 758-9210.
